Burgers Through The Years

Burgers through the Years

By the end of this lesson... We will know more about how the burger was made famous and how it developed into the various types and flavors we enjoy today.

The Origins of the Burger No one knows precisely where the burger was invented, but the closest origins we can trace it to lies with the Hamburg Steak.

The Hamburg Steak is a popular ground beef patty dish developed in Hamburg, Germany. It was brought by German immigrants to the United States of America.

The Hamburg Steak was widely available in the United States by the 1800s, but at the time, restaurants sold them on plates.

It was believed that the increased demand for convenience by on-the-go workers called for the Hamburg Steak to be sold in between two pieces of bread.

This ground beef patty dish eventually became famous as the hamburger. Today, this is the most widely available variation of burgers found in fast food chains and restaurants worldwide.

The Development of the Burger With the hamburger's popularity, other variations of the original burger started to be sold in the market.

The chicken fillet burger was a common meal among African Americans as early as the late 1930s, and it was later popularized by the American fast food chain Chick-fil-A when it opened in 1964.

The fish fillet burger was popularized by McDonald’s as the Filet-o-Fish. It was the solution to falling sales during Western Christians’ Friday meat fast .

Lastly, recipes on how to make no-meat burgers made from vegetables have been published as early as 1969.

Are burgers today limited to the use of ground beef for the patty?

Stacking The Burger

Burgers just. taste. so. good. Is there a reason why they taste that way? Maybe the answer is in its stacking order. This lesson will help you know how to stack a burger to maximize its flavor, texture, and structure.
