10 Antiracism Training Courses
We’ve created a list of antiracism training courses to combat racism in the workplace and promote a safe working environment for all employees. These courses aim to educate and improve the understanding of racism, its impact, and the different ways to address it.
1. Diversity and Inclusion

3. U.S. Anti-Black Racism
Sadly, racism is still evident up to this day and has been the subject of multiple headlines and breaking news. In this course, FutureLearn has partnered with the University of Connecticut to educate learners about the harmful effects of racism, especially within the Black American community. This antiracism training course starts by uncovering the history of racism and the black-white binary that exists today. Learners will then be familiar with the different types of racism and how these behaviors are mirrored in society. This self-paced course takes 3 weeks to finish. While it’s free to take, you’ll only have 5 weeks to access it. To earn a certificate of completion and have unlimited access, you’ll need to upgrade and pay a fee.

4. Facing Racism and Emotional Tax in the Workplace
This antiracism training course by edX talks about the adverse effects of racism at work, and why every organization should have an action plan to address them. To put things into perspective, learners will be asked to reflect on their personal experiences related to their ethical and racial identity. Drawing from those experiences, the next lesson teaches them about the key concepts of racism and why we should all advocate anti-racism. This course then uncovers what “emotional tax” is and its harmful effects on marginalized groups both in and outside of work. Lastly, this course calls everyone to action by encouraging inclusive behaviors and identifying steps to address racial inequities. This self-paced course takes a week to complete. While it’s free to audit, you won’t be able to access all the course materials and will have to pay to also get a certificate of completion.

5. Anti-Racism Strategies for the Workplace
To better understand the inequalities and roots of racism in Canada, the University of British Columbia has created this course to educate learners about the realities of racism. Here, learners will get a glimpse of the experiences and points of view of racialized professionals. For fostering a safe working environment, there’s also a lesson in developing anti-racist strategies that will cultivate respect and equity among employees. This course follows an online, asynchronous format and takes almost 3 weeks to complete.

6. Race Discrimination Training
The Australian Human Rights Commission has developed this antiracism training course to help bring awareness to racism and its effects in the workplace. It first defines racism, then familiarizes learners with race and racism in an Australian context. Racism as a notion, concept, and experience will also be discussed. To combat racism, learners will get to know about skills to provide effective bystander action and strategies to address racism. This self-paced eLearning course takes 2-3 hours to complete, and participants will get a certificate of completion after. This course is hosted on the Australian Human Rights Commission’s learning management system, but if you’re looking to host it on your own LMS, you can contact them to discuss licensing agreements.

7. Becoming Anti-Racist with Nova Reid
Nova Reid, an activist, TED Speaker, and writer, has developed this course to stress the importance of anti-racism work and its positive impact on people’s lives. Concepts about white privilege and colorism will be discussed, as well as everyday racism through microaggressions. Here, she’ll also talk about how parenting and allyship are key factors in building an anti-racist outlook and building trust with other people. Lessons in this course are presented in video and audio formats, and include homework and slides for further reading.

8. ERASE Racism Training and Professional Development
Erase Racism created this course to help individuals understand the implications and effects of racism in society. This course starts by letting learners know how race and racism have developed, the types of racism, and ways to combat them. It then looks at structural racism and examines Long Island’s history and ongoing battle with racism as an example. Learners will also discover antiracist actions brought about by biases, learn to deal with microaggressions, and address them from an individual to an institutional level. The modules in this course can be edited to suit specific needs, and Erase Racism can even create additional ones upon request.

9. Call it out: racism, racial discrimination and human rights
This antiracism training course is targeted at residents of Ontario to educate them about race, racial discrimination, and their rights under Ontario's Human Rights Code. In this 30-minute interactive course, they’ll see historical examples and events and uncover the roots of racism. This course will also define race, racism, and racial discrimination, along with the different levels of racism and types of racial discrimination. Participants who take this course will also be equipped with strategies and approaches to racial discrimination and will learn how to identify and respond to race-based discrimination and harassment at work. This course can be taken on desktops, laptops, and tablets. While it includes some virtual training activities, it’s presented in a PowerPoint-slide format, so it may feel a bit outdated for modern learners.

10. Indigenous Peoples and Cultural Awareness (AUS)
This EdApp course gives learners a peek into the ethnic culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Australia. In this course, learners will learn all about their history, traditions, and the challenges they’ve faced, and how those impacted the living culture of the present. After learning about the Indigenous culture of Australia, this course teaches learners how to respectfully work with people from different cultural backgrounds, values, and beliefs. It also teaches learners about cultural etiquette rules, cross-cultural issues, and racism faced by minorities, and various ways to stand up to them, such as speaking up against discrimination and offering support to your colleagues.
While this course is focused on the Indigenous peoples of Australia, it’s fully editable, which means that you can customize the content in this course to fit your cross-cultural training needs.
